Session Tips Family Session Tips
Beautiful and memorable portraits are carefully planned and the clothing you choose determines your portrait session's success.
Clothing Tips
Choose a color scheme that simplifies the look of your family portrait. Coordinate the clothing for all subjects in the group so that one person will not stand out because the clothing is too light, too bright or with a different pattern than the rest of the group. Simplicity is the key, solid colors are the best. Avoid large or bold patterns, stripes and bright colors, they draw attention away from the face. Short sleeve shirts also draw attention away and should be avoided. Choose clothing in the same tonal ranges. Coordinate your attire from head to toe, carefully selecting appropriate shoes, socks or stockings. For formal portraits, dark colors are usually best. For casual portraits, barefoot can be a great look or oxford type shoes (avoid tennis shoes). Long sleeve dresses and shirts are recommended. Darker clothing tends to minimize body size, and light tones tend to emphasize body size.
For outdoor portraits choose colors in the earthtones, such as browns, forest greens, burgundies, tans, blues, blue jeans or khakis are always good. Always avoid bright colors.
Senior Session Tips
Your session should be fun with a good variety of clothing, which above all expresses your personality.
Don't forget things like: sports uniforms, letterman's jacket, tuxedo, prom dresses, ect.
All outfits must be supplied by student.
We also suggest you bring props such as; musical instruments, pets, football, basketball, baseball bat and glove, soccer ball , volleyball, trophies or anything that represents your hobbies, interests or personality.
Girls should do their own make-up and hair, or bring someone that can help.
Guys should have their hair cut at least one week before the portrait session.
